SAARTHI was founded in 2016 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit by Dr. Shikha Batra, a Sociologist and an author of multiple books and a wide range of
peer-reviewed journal articles examining family relationships, cultural pressures, and the hidden struggles women face behind closed doors. For more than 15 years, Dr. Batra immersed herself in community work, listening to stories of fear, isolation, and resilience from countless South Asian women navigating the complexities of domestic abuse.
Through years of academic research and hands-on community engagement, one truth became painfully clear:
So many women, children, and families could be protected from abuse if they received the right guidance, support, and intervention at the right moment.
This realization became the foundation of SAARTHI.
SAARTHI was created to be a safe, trusted hand to hold, a bridge between silence and support. Our model combines sociological expertise with real community experience to reach women before the cycle of abuse deepens. Instead of waiting for victims to come forward, we meet them where they are, quietly, respectfully, and without judgment.
What We Do
At SAARTHI, we believe that healthy relationships are the foundation of safe, happy, and fulfilling lives, and that every woman, child, and family deserves to feel valued, empowered, and safe, especially those overcoming domestic abuse. Many survivors carry silent wounds that make them question their worth, strength, and future, and we are here to change that. Our mission is to provide compassionate, culturally sensitive guidance and resources that help women, children, and families heal, grow, and build healthier social connections.
Through educational workshops, support groups, community resources, and long-term relationship solutions rooted in the scientific principles of sociology, we work to break cycles of conflict, isolation, and abuse. We walk beside survivors as they rediscover their voice, rebuild confidence, and take steps toward healing and independence, reminding them that they are never alone and never without options.
At SAARTHI, we are dedicated to creating healthier homes by addressing the often-silent struggles within families. Our purpose is to empower every woman, child, and family to reclaim their lives with dignity, courage, and hope.
Our organization is involved in numerous projects.
Nayi Shuruyaat
Our Flagship Program for Job Readiness
Our signature workforce initiative helps women gain economic independence through resume building, interview coaching, digital literacy, and career exploration. Nayi Shuruyat equips survivors and immigrant women with the confidence, skills, and professional tools they need to secure employment, grow financially, and take control of their future.
Crisis & Prevention Support
SAARTHI provides compassionate, culturally informed emotional support and safety planning for South Asian immigrant women experiencing domestic or gender-based violence. Our prevention-first approach empowers women with tools, resources, and guidance to make safe decisions, break isolation, and rebuild stability with dignity and cultural understanding.
Women’s support group
SAARTHI creates safe, uplifting spaces where women can connect, share experiences, and heal together. Monthly meetups offer emotional support, wellness activities, and meaningful cultural bonding, helping women overcome isolation and find community belonging while strengthening mental well-being and resilience.
Education & Workshops
We host educational sessions on healthy relationships, mental well-being, parenting challenges, digital literacy, and immigrant experiences. These workshops empower families with knowledge, tools, and culturally grounded strategies to navigate daily life, strengthen emotional health, and build safer, healthier homes.
Youth & Family Support
Our youth and family programs nurture emotional well-being, cultural identity, and healthy communication. Through interactive workshops and academic support, we help children and parents build confidence, strengthen relationships, and thrive within both their cultural traditions and their new environment.
Cultural Integration Support
SAARTHI helps new immigrants adjust to life in the United States by offering guidance on local systems, resources, and community engagement. We support women and families as they build confidence, form connections, and navigate their new environment with cultural sensitivity and trust.
Cultural Diversity & Inclusion
We partner with corporations to build culturally competent workplaces through interactive training and research-based workshops. SAARTHI equips teams with tools to understand cultural differences, reduce biases, and create inclusive environments where diverse employees feel respected, valued, and empowered to contribute.
Advocacy & Community Outreach
We raise awareness about domestic violence, immigrant rights, and mental health within the South Asian community. Through partnerships and public outreach, we promote culturally informed advocacy, improve service access, and help agencies better understand the unique challenges faced by South Asian immigrant families.
Special Events & Initiatives
From cultural celebrations to collaborative community programs, our events bring people together to foster belonging, joy, and awareness. These initiatives strengthen connections across the South Asian community and highlight issues affecting immigrant women and families.
Resource Navigation
SAARTHI connects women to trusted legal, housing, healthcare, financial, counseling, and immigration services. We walk alongside families to ensure they understand their options and receive the right support, making complex systems easier to navigate during times of crisis or transition.
